'Cookie' is a very correct and true to type pattern of a traditional gypsy cob. He has been specifically line bred through generations of the best gyspy bloodlines available. He has real quality - an abundance of feather, a leg in every corner, a beautiful small head with tiny ears, a great length of rein and that lovely round `apple shaped` back end! He has an outstanding temperament. Cookie has produced some exquisite progeny - all well marked, straight good movers and stamped with his quality. Cookie is bred from the very famous Lion King and Black Horse bloodlines. His now deceased Grandsire the Lion King was exported to the USA and his Granddam was by the Black Horse, famous for his terrific movement and action. His foals when available command very good prices and are very much sought after, here in the UK and worldwide.
He has one son Abbotswood Gorgie Boy, who has just been awarded a 'First Premium' with the CHAPS UK - the highest grade possible. A First Premium means that the horse is an outstanding example of his type and should go on to be a top quality stallion This smart colt has an impressive record in only three outings - Winner at the British National Foal of the Year Show 2007, Champion of the CHAPS Youngstock Evaluations at the South East Regional Show. Abbotswood Gorgie Boy was also 2nd in the Open Native, Cob and Traditional Class in a very strong class at the very prestigious The Royal Windsor Horse Show, 2008.
The Lion King is a 15.2 hand HOMOZYGOUS stallion who sadly died in March 2008, Colerado, USA. He is supposed to be one of the the heaviest (in feather) horse that has ever lived. The Lion King is a son of the phenomenal mare called the "PO Mare" who is one of the most famous mares anywhere. The sire of The Lion King had a very short career, as he died in an accident as a 2 year old, after breeding only a few mares. This makes "the mix" that created this horse something unique, that can never be recreated. He is truly one of a kind. Rumors like to say that The Lion King was bred in Ireland. This is not true. His sire and dam resided in England, and were bred in England. Lion King's mother was sold to an Irish breeder when she was near to foaling and therefore he hit the ground in Ireland. Gypsy breeders do not consider that "being bred" somewhere, the breeder that put the mare to the stallion is considered to be the "breeder" of an animal, and where it happens to be foaled is irrelevant! Lion King went back to England as a yearling (to the same person who sold his mother in foal to Ireland), and has lived his whole life there, with that same man, until 2003, after which he was exported to the USA.
